The Happy Death or Memoir of Mary Jane | Victorian Mourning Booklet | 1846
Description
The Happy Death or Memoir of Mary Jane | Victorian Mourning Booklet | 1846Very poignant, early Victorian mourning booklet memorializing a little girl named Mary Jane. Neither her date of death, age, or illness are spelled out directly, but it seems from what I read that she died around age 6 of consumption, a leading cause of death at this time. Interestingly, the book mentions that her mother read to her an extract from ANOTHER memoir of a child when she was alive and well and this extract taught Mary Jane about virtue.
