Description

GENERAL MANGIN: 1953 - Color-coded, tissue deck plan from 1950sFabre Line: A fold out tissue deck plan (20" by 25") of the GENERAL MANGIN, a France to Congo passenger liner. Although the ship only displaced 12,500 tons, there were three classes onboard, plus additional barrack space for 500 soldiers. Each section is color coded showing lots of deck space for First and Second classes, and a tight fit for anyone down in Third. I am guessing that when the ship actually carried 500 soldiers to the restive colonies

My favorite is of the RAFF First Class Dining Room with its red carpet and blue velour chairs

There are two photos - a lounge scene and the indoor swimming pool - that probably were lifted from the ship's Canadian Pacific days

Visayas Saloon (ex-Cabin Class Dining Room)

These ships sailed from New York to the Mediterranean which in later years were promoted as 45 day cruises

Five decks are shown in detail with color-coding for cabin type

the bedroom of a suite

Color photos show the Swimming Pool

Plans for the CITY OF CHATTANOOGA and CITY OF BIRMINGHAM

In 1966 the liner caught fire during a Caribbean cruise and was destroyed

dance Space

The many large color interior photos best show the transformation

and anyone who has visited the east coast of South America will find them fascinating
