2022, Domaine Darviot-Perrin, VOLNAY, 1er cru, 'Santenots'
Description
2022, Domaine Darviot-Perrin, VOLNAY, 1er cru, 'Santenots'50 year old vines. Noticeably more clay in the soil of Santenots than for most of Volnay, giving wines of full body and rich texture. A solid even deep purple. The fruit does not taste cooked but has become a little squashy, let us say fully ripe, but retains its balance on the palate, with few evident tannins, and good length. Not too much acidity, so will come round in the medium term. Just a tannin now showing at the back. Drink from 2028 2035 ***
Another fine deep imperial purple
The top soil for the Brouilly is alluvium-clay while the deep subsoil is made up of schist and granite
As good as the 2016 is
Ageing of 20 months in French oak barrels
4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot
Mouthwatering acidity with fruit just shy of being high-toned
These carry to a medium-bodied 2021 that has good ripeness
This all comes from an almost experimental white he did in 2017 (when he didn't bottle the Que Bonito Cacareaba)
liquorice notes offering depth and wideness - lots of terroir and grape markers in the glass - particularly the high percentage (25%) of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend
Decanter (2023)
powerful wine endowed with tremendous energy
this is definitely a level up from the previous vintage
